YES!  When one submits their application for membership, the applicant must provide copies of their highest rank in the arts they wish to represent.

$40.00 per person

NKJF represents all traditional martial arts styles/systems from Japan, Okinawa, China, and Korea, such as Karate-Do, Kobudo, Jujitsu/Jujutsu, Aikido, Judo, Iaido, Kung-Fu, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, etc.

It was founded in 1974 by the late Soke Richard P. Baillargeon and under the name of NKJU and NKJUI.  The [U] was for UNION, and the [I] was for INTERNATIONAL.  In March 2021 the organization's name was changed and trademarked to NKJF, USA-International by Hanshi Steven E. Johnson, Founder, (Shodai Kaicho) 1st President and Director.

The short answer is no, however; this is up to the student's instructor. It is expected that when we all come together for training events everyone has the opportunity to cross-train in the arts represented by each instructor.

Typically it take 4-5 years BUT this is based on attending classes 3-4 days per week for at least an hour each session.  It is also style/system dependant.  Each school and Chief instructor sets their own promotion standards.

The Head or Chief instructor has to be a minimum of 18 years old.

YES! We are affiliated with the International Martial Arts Federation (IMAF), Member #32465, the oldest Budo organization in Japan.

YES!  We are recognized by the Japan Karate-Do Federation, the Japan Union of Karate-Do Organization, the Motobu-Ha Shito-Ryu Seishin-Kai Karate-Do Union, and the Japan Budo Association.

YES!  If a member is tested and promoted in Shotokan Karate, an instructor of higher authority in the same style can approved the rank promotion.  An NKJF certificate will be issued in Shotokan Karate and signed by the approving authority.  The NKJF certificate will also bear the name of the Kaicho (President/Director).

YES! Each dojo may issue their own certificates, however; if a student desires a certificate from NKJF, they much obtain membership.
